Direct-sow seeds in spring after danger of frost since plants are tender. Or start seed 4 weeks before outdoor planting to obtain young transplants. Choose a sunny location and a fertile soil that drains well, although too much nitrogen produces more foliage than flowers. Pick faded flowers to prolong bloom.
