Lavender is grown for both its pleasantly scented leaves and its colourful flowers. Plant grows into compact mounds 18in - 24in (45cm - 60cm) tall with small grey leaves and lavender-coloured flower spikes. Use to perfume soaps, pillows, sachets, bath water, and in flower arrangements. Plant as a low hedge or edging.

Start seed indoors 8 weeks before outdoor planting after frost danger in spring. Choose a sunny location and a fertile, well drained soil. To improve sandy or clay soils and compost. For a hedge effect space plants 2ft apart.
