Choose a sunny location and direct-sow seed where plants are to bloom in bare soil that has good drainage. Lightly cover the seed with soil, just enough to stop it from blowing away. This can occur several weeks before the last expected spring frost date and again in later summer or early fall so plants create a dome of green leaves to flower extra early the following season.
