To encourage flowering the first season, start seed indoors 8 - 10 weeks before outdoor planting to obtain healthy transplants. Alternatively, direct-sow seed where plants are to bloom. Provide sun or light shade and a fertile soil with good drainage, although forget-me-nots will tolerate moist soils. Biennials bloom the second year, produce seeds and die.
