This popular shade-loving annual produces clusters of 2in (5cm) flowers all summer until frost. Flowers come in brilliant colours, including bi colours with centre “eyes” and stars. While most flowers are single petaled, some are double. Excellent for beds, borders, patio pots and hanging baskets.

The seed is tiny and should be started 8 weeks before outdoor planting after frost danger in spring to obtain healthy transplants. Barely cover the seed with soil just enough to stop it from blowing away. Choose a shady location in a fertile, humus-rich soil that has good drainage.
