Direct sow seed where plants are to bloom several weeks before the last expected spring frost date or start seed indoors 4 weeks before the last frost date to obtain healthy transplants. Choose a sunny position and soil with good drainage. Avoid planting in the same location two seasons in a row in order to avoid a fungus disease that will wilt plants, or grow in containers with sterile potting soil.
