With 9,000 years of cultivation behind them, it is no wonder that there are a myriad of varieties in a multitude of colours available to the home gardener – all have their origins in wild species native to Central and South America.
True to their name, the slim fruits of Cayenne peppers are long and ripen to bright red. When fully mature, they are very hot and are great pickled or dried and used as a seasoning. The colourful fruits are often curled and twisted, and can be threaded on strong and dried for a colourful ornament. Ideal for canning, pickling or drying.
