With 9,000 years of cultivation behind them, it is no wonder that there are a myriad of varieties in a multitude of colours available to the home gardener – all have their origins in wild species native to Central and South America.
Fruits of this variety are attractive, sweet and colourful – turning from canary yellow to orange-red when mature. The tapered fruits grow to about 6in (15cm) long. Excellent for pickling, frying, salads and dips. Can be threaded on string and dried for a colourful ornament. Excellent source of vitamins A and C. Spiciest when red.
