This charming old-fashioned hardy annual produces attractive light blue blossoms that compliment informal borders and cottage gardens. Blossoms are an excellent choice for cutting. The seed pods are even more desirable when cut after they have ripened and dried.

Direct-sow seeds several weeks before the last expected spring frost date, or start seeds indoors 6 weeks before outdoor planting to obtain healthy, ready to bloom transplants. Also, make a direct sowing in late summer so the plants go dormant over winter and bloom extra early in the spring. Choose a sunny location and fertile soil with good drainage. Plants will often self-seed to come back in subsequent years.
