For best flavour and development, time crops to mature during cool weather. Because of differing maturity times, harvest begins in 3-4 weeks and extends beyond two months.

Direct-sow seeds where plants are to mature several weeks before the last expected frost date since lettuce likes cool conditions. Choose a sunny site and a good drainage. After a spring harvest, sow seed again in late summer for a fall harvest.
