This butterhead type of lettuce is prized for its heavy, compact heads, superb flavour, and heat resistance. The centre leaves blanch to a light colour with a buttery texture and rich flavour. Outer leaves are crisp and juicy. A good choice for production in early summer; ideal for containers. Sow again in late summer/fall.

Direct-sow seeds where plants are to mature several weeks before the last expected frost date since lettuce likes cool conditions to form firm heads. Alternatively, start seed indoors four weeks before outdoor planting to obtain healthy transplants for an extra early harvest.
