This North American native prairie wildflower produces large daisy-like blooms with purple petals and a shiny brown dome of pollen in the middle. Since it is perennial, seeds produce a mound of foliage the first year and flower in early summer the second season, then each year thereafter. The long strong stems are suitable for cutting.
