This perennial features fringed flower petals similar to carnations. The fragrant double flowers bloom in a variety of colours through summer and fall. Plants are compact, and popular as edgings and borders, or in containers. They work well in rock gardens and are long-lasting cut flowers.

Start seed indoors eight weeks before outdoor planting after frost danger in spring to obtain healthy transplants, although plants will tolerate mild frosts. Choose a sunny location and fertile soil with good drainage.
