This is our best early normal sugary variety for cool soil planting. A very versatile and vigorous variety, Sunnyvee produces robust 6ft (2m) stalks that yield 7in/17cm – 12 rowed golden ears. Considered by some as the best variety for cold soil conditions early in the season. A prime short season candidate.

Sweet corn will grow in most any soil save for the two extremes – too wet or too dry. Best growth in sunny, wind-sheltered site with a well-drained, organic soil. Soil pH levels of 5.5 to 6.5. Sow seed after all danger of frost is past and the soil has warmed up to the recommended minimum temperature – planting any sooner delays germination drastically, increasing the risk of damage or destruction by insects or rot before sprouting. Sufficient watering is particularly important at flowering and when the cobs begin to fill. Cobs are generally ready for harvesting when the ‘silks’ turn dark brown. Test by piercing a kernel with thumbnail to see if it spurts a milky juice.
