Low mounds of delicate foliage give rise to colourful, intricately shaped flowers in spring and early summer. Flowers are usually bicoloured and include white, yellow, pink, blue, red and lavender. Use in mass plantings and mixed with other late spring flowers.

To bloom this first year from seed, start seed indoors 8 - 10 weeks before outdoor planting, several weeks before the last expected spring frost date in order to obtain healthy transplants. Plants relish cool weather. Although they flower best in full sun with good drainage, columbines will tolerate light shade.
