Punchy, distinctive tasting, spinach-like greens common in the Mediterranean, the long, dark green, lobed leaves form a loose, open bunch. Adds zing to salads, or cooked and served with spinach. Grow for spring and fall crop. Quick growth and a cool season are best for this plant. After plants flower, leaves may still be used but taste is sharper.

Direct seed several weeks before the last spring frost date as the seedlings tolerate mild frosts. Choose a sunny location and fertile, well-drained soil. Improve clay or sandy soils with compost. Water regularly and keep the site free of weeds. Make succession sowings at 2-week intervals for a continuous supply until fall frosts.
