A very popular mild flavoured Japanese radish that resembles a large white carrot. Crisp, tender roots average 20cm (8in) in length and 7cm (2.5in) in diameter. The vitamin rich roots are superb when eaten raw, sliced in salads or peeled and diced for soups and stews.

Plant seed every two weeks starting in mid July and ending in mid to late August. Sow seed 1cm (1/2in) deep and 2.5cm (1in) apart in rows spaced 30cm (12in) apart. Thin seedlings to 10cm (4in) apart in the row. When harvesting roots, first use a digging fork to loosen the soil around roots then gently pull the plant from the loose ground by gripping the leaves as close to the top of the roots as possible.
