The Perfect Cup of Coffee

The Perfect Cup of Coffee

Subjects:

Everyone has their 'perfect cup of coffee', a moment of complete enjoyment to start the day.  Unlike our weekday coffees, rushed, spilled, sipped lukewarm, or purchased from a café, the perfect cup of coffee usually comes with its own environment.

Our Perfect Cup of Coffee...

The old remodeled 1979 Scamper trailer is pulled into a quiet mountain lake.  It is just a bit chilly this morning, but heat is radiating from the piles of covers I am tucked under.  Cool air drifts in under the covers as my husband lifts them to get up and start the coffee.  The dog groans in protest and cuddles up closer to me.  The stove is lit, and the scent of coffee fills the small space as my husband opens the coffee jar and scoops the grounds. Everything is nestled on the stove and my husband moves to put on his boots, heading out into the crisp morning.

No sound is heard for a short while as things are organized outside.  Soon the sound of an axe getting to work kills the silence, pieces of wood hitting the soft dirt follow. More silence follows. The sound of the coffee sputtering and the fire beginning to crackle begin in unison, telling me the official start to the morning has begun.  It is now my turn to get out of bed. The dog protests again, digging himself into the covers, only his butt and tail peeking out of the blankets.  The fire begins to roar as the coffee nears the point of ready. It’s my turn to take over.  I pull out mugs from the cupboard and pour the thick smelling liquid.

The screen door of our trailer still has a marvelous squeak and slam to it as it opens and closes.  My husband turns at the sound and reaches out his hands for the cup and his face for a kiss!  Cozying down into our chairs we sit in silence by the fire, staring into its memorizing flicker, allowing all the cares of the world to burn up with the wood.  A small whine is heard, and I turn my head, the dog is looking out from inside the trailer, feeling a little left out.

Creating the perfect cup of coffee can be easy but creating the perfect environment to drink it in can get tricky.  Here are a couple of our go-to items for making coffee, whether at home or camping, and a couple items to make your backyard have more of that 'camp’ experience!
